Some Basic Search Engine Optimization

December 21st, 2008

These basic SEO are recommended for the biggest search engines. Below are recommended for the meta tags in the header. (Alex Jeffreys is the main keyword)

Google logo

1. Title tag:
<title>Alex Jeffreys Coaching Program</title>:
Use your main keyword in this phrase and try to find a title that most visitors appeal to.

2. Description tag:
<meta name=”description” content=”Great success in Alex Jeffreys coaching”>:
Again use your main keyword in this phrase. Try to write the description as clear as possible and make it sticky. This text will be seen in the search engines results. It is important to write something that attracts the visitors among all other search results.

3. Keywords tag:
<meta name=”keywords” content=”alex jeffreys, jeffreys, jeffreys coaching”>:
Write your main keyword first. Separate wit commas for the next ones. Use maximum 5 keywords. All keywords should be related with your main keyword.

Above basic search engine optimization are recommended for the head tag. Then you will write your web page content related with the keywords.

If you have a short text do not use your keyword in the body text to often. I will come back with info about Search Engine Optimization for your content of your web pages.

Additional info for Search Engine Optimization for WordPress Blogs
I have tried the “All In One SEO Pack”, Search Engine Optimization pack, for WordPress. Since I didnĀ“t know how to manually change the meta tags in the WordPress themes files.

Maybe it is not possible to change because it is database driven? But the SEO pack seems to work fine for WordPress 2.7.

When using the SEO pack the results in the html files are two lines for the keywords meta tag. The first one is empty:
<”meta name=”keywords” content=”">.

The other one is generated by the SEO pack:
<”meta name=”keywords” content=”alex jeffreys, etc, etc”>

Update: I dont know what the search engines think about the extra empty meta tag. But it should not be a problem if this has been the case with older versions of WordPress.

Anyway these extra tags are easy to remove. Choose to edit your theme and choose to edit “header.php”. There you should delete the two meta tags for “Description” and “Keywords”.

    Hi Ali!

All in One SEO is a good tool. Otherwise you’d need a html editor like XSitePro or My Free Website Builder to edit the meta tags. Actually having an html editor comes in handy a lot so it is actually better to have it. :)

If anybody has a question or something to share, you’re invited to leave a comment on my blog or send me a tweet on Twitter. :)

    All the best!

    Regards,
